White Point Beach Resort – Nova Scotia
It’s safe to say that summer only lasts about three months in a lot of parts of Canada, and for two in most parts, so by the end of August, it’s time to be booking elsewhere if you want a warm or hot vacation spot. British Columbia is the hottest place right now unfortunately, where the fires are scaring away tourists as I write this. Having said that, it doesn’t hurt to know where the next suitable destination might be that you can look into, plan for and reserve for the following year. And when a family resort like White Point Beach is found, it is worthwhile to mention even though it is August 5, 2009.
Nova Scotia on the east coast of Canada and jutting out above the east coast states, has all the makings of a catch-in-your-throat type of picture perfect location. Places like Peggy’s Cove, Lunenberg, and almost every mile of this island, has beautiful places that draw you back time and again.
White Point Beach Resort is located in White Point Beach, Queens County, NS. and what started as a hunting and fishing lodge, has evolved into a full-fledged resort over the years, while keeping its heritage intact.
Activities: two lakes, one kilometer of white sand beach, surf lessons, saltwater indoor heating pool, outdoor pool, fitness room, bikes, whirlpool, tennis courts, nature trails, rabbit – yes it’s true, kayaks, island camping, billiards, mussel bakes, massages and programs focusing on being healthy, such as the Health Retreat and spa with Chinese Acupressure and Quantum-Touch therapy, which is becoming well-known for its healing results. There are fireplaces, playground, children’s programs, a nine-hole golf course and much more. Surfing lessons are available for various age and skill levels. Scuba diving certification information and scuba gear are available, as well as the chance to dive at an artificial reef off Port Mouton Island. There are recreational programs for children daily.
Teens are not coaxed with programs, just availability of activities, including access to the boat house, body boarding, games rooms, basketball court, or whatever else is available.
Pets: Yes, you can bring pets, within certain limits, so check ahead on this.
Dining: I love the way they’ve taken the time to put together a variety of menus online, and also meal plans available to choose and order ahead of time, and meal packages to purchase if you want the convenience too. Fresh and local are the main ingredients, from the garden and the sea, so count on being fed well.
Accommodations: there is a beautiful selection of room and cottage types here to choose from. You can stay in the main lodge, with a private balcony and patio doors to enter from. The rooms are supposed to be rustic, but leave a bit to be desired in rustic beauty. There are Seaview and Lakeview Lodge rooms, with wheelchair accessibility for those wondering about that. For those planning a large family gathering, there are the Ocean Lodge rooms, with 8 bedroomss, a large living room and stone fireplace, a covered verandah to watch the waves coming in, four piece bathrooms adjoined to each bedroom. You might just want to stay there all summer! There are other cottages to view and varying prices, so the best thing would be to see their price list, but they start at about 100.00 Canadian, and go up. Some cottages and rooms require a 7 night minimum stay, while others do not. For those needing Wi-Fi, it is available. You can inform the resort ahead of time of environmental sensitivities and allergies.
You can sign up for membership privileges, and keep notified throughout the year of their specials, any events coming up, wine reviews, and more.
How to get there: If you are flying into Halifax, head 95 miles southwest of Halifax on Route 104. Go onto Exit 20A, turn right onto Route 3, and follow it to the resort. With GPS, you are Latitude 43.964897 and Longitude 64.736938.
