Well Loved Inn on Tybee Island, Georgia

If you are interested in keeping up with the Joneses on your next family vacation, you could spend $5000.00 or more per night at Cloisters Resort which is situated on Sea Island, or for those trying to tighten their belts which is the majority of people, you can stay at the Georgianne Inn on Tybee Island. Enjoy the free bikes, incredibly low priced sea food, and 3 miles of sand along the shoreline for strolling, swimming and riding waves on the boogie boards provided free of charge at the Inn.

The Inn was built in 1910 and contains seven suites, so you are not checking into a huge resort complex. The beach is a couple hundred yards from the inn.

The best rooms are # 2 and 3.  The two bedroom suites have two bathrooms, a unique aspect for many beach hotels. One bedroom suites include a kitchen and there are several restaurants you can walk or drive to. There are folding twin beds available on request.

Rates: From April to September, rates range from 125.00 per night to $235.00.
From October to March you’ll pay anywhere from $75.00 per night to $175.00.
Weekend rates are unique: If you only stay on night on the weekend, they charge an extra 50.00 per night. Overall, you can do well here if looking for a cheap family beach vacation.

There is no pool but if you are an ocean person, that will not matter.
There is a video library with a vast assortment, gardens, sitting area called an outdoor parlor, beach chairs, outdoor shower to rinse off before going in to your room, and for exploring Savannah shops, you have a 30 minute drive to downtown Savannah.

Ratings: People love this place. There are rarely complaints and renovations have been done. It caters to individuals, couples and families. The proprietor is revered for his friendliness and ability to recommend places in the area including restaurants.

Pets: none. The beach has a no pet law.

If you must have an ocean front hotel however, you may want to consider the DeSoto Beach Hotel on Tybee Island. It is apparently the only beach front hotel there, and is 20 minutes from downtown Savannah.

The DeSoto Beach Hotel does not have kitchenettes, but they do have fridges and microwaves, as well as a beach front pool. You will have to rent bikes, beach chairs and umbrellas, compared to the free ones at Georgianne Inn. There is a games room.

Rates: these vary so much depending on the month and time of the week that I’ll leave that for you to look up yourself. Let’s just say that in the summer, they range from 159.00 to 429.00 depending on the day and the size of the room. They really charge premium rates for any holiday the U.S. celebrates – well not quite every holiday, but the major ones at least. There are also some good packages that include trips to the lighthouse, the marine science center, fishing boat tours, or dolphin cruises, to name a few.

There is wheelchair accessibility which is good to know.
