Timothy Beach Resort – St. Kitts

If you’ve been the type of family who crave the authentic for a change and not the standard luxury resort where everything is beautiful but lacking personality, then head to the Timothy Beach Resort. One of the few family beach resorts on the island that have a down-to-earth atmosphere, you’ll be at ease and so will your pocket book compared to other places on the island.

This resort has a stretch of beach in front that is private in order to prevent cruise ship visitors from invading that area you paid for, which by the way is on what may be one of the best beaches on St. Kitts. Not only that, this resort has been favored by families of all shapes and sizes because of the warm welcoming environment this places envelopes you in. What is ironic is that a shuttle runs from two other luxury hotels to Timothy Beach because the swimming and beach area is not so hot at the Marriott for example. The resort is on the Caribbean side of the island, while the Marriott is on the Atlantic side. This apparently makes all the difference.

If you and your family are big into little animals, this is the place to enjoy the many monkeys, goats, mongoose and cats. If however allergies prevail, you may want to re-think your island destination. Bring a video cam because your kids will be hysterical watching the monkeys chase the cats – just in fun. At dusk the monkeys descend for any goodies that have been left out for them. Keep your fingers way from them however, just to avoid unnecessary risks from a bold but wild creature.

Activities: there is not a children’s program here, but there is a babysitting service. There is a roof top pool, golfing just a short drive away for your 18 holes, water sports, a rainforest and volcano expedition to test your physical shape and stamina. Be in shape for goodness sake if you go on this and have good footwear, Brimstone Hill Fortress, Greg’s Safaris – book this from the U.S. or wherever you live.

Rooms: the ocean front suite is apparently spectacular. Some renovations have transformed the rooms from lackluster to better, though they will not be luxury rooms. The scenery is luxurious enough however. All the various room types have their own patio or balcony and air conditioning. Condo suites and studios have kitchens.

Credit cards work at the resort, but they don’t work well at many places in the island, so don’t count on using them all the time. In addition, ATMs are available in the downtown core, but if you are not interested in Euros, than you can keep your cash at the resort in the safety deposit boxes available.

Bring your own toiletries as they will likely not provide the basics you are accustomed to an even a basic Motel 6. They have soap, but that is about it. The remote controls for the televisions pose a problem on the island overall, and it’s not limited to this resort in being finicky.

Pros: considered a favorite and one of the best family vacations among families who want to relax, not have to constantly be in the presence of the stiffs who expects children to be seen and not heard.

Cons: complaints about the noise from bars down the beach especially on the weekends. Ask about this, find out the best locations, turn up your air condition or ask for a fan to block out noise, and avoid the time that would occur if possible. And cruise line patrons do tend to leave their garbage on the beaches. That reminds me of Nim’s Island.
