Grenada Carnival at St. Georges
If you’re considering Caribbean family holidays this summer, why not time your holiday for the Carnivals happening in Grenada. The Spice Mas, which is the Grenada Carnival, includes masquerade costumes, Children’s Carnival Frolic, Monday night Mas competition, and much more. This is an incredibly unique opportunity to experience the flavor of the Caribbean celebrations that will provide fun memories long after the holidays are over.
The Gem Holiday Resort is located on Mourn Rouge Bay, St. Georges, Grenada, very close to the popular Grand Anse beach as well. A very uncrowded beach is at the resort that increases in population after the workday. The air conditioned rooms with kitchenettes, overlooking the water, ensuite baths, not so pretty bedding, (I’m biased) and a very friendly staff with courteous and helpful owners, creates an atmosphere that you cannot find at the other stiff clones of hotels in this area. The resort is set in a stunning backdrop of greenery facing out towards the blue sea.
Grenada is the ship wreck capital of the Caribbean, and if you and your family are into scuba diving, the wrecks are well-known here, especially the Bianca C, which was the 600 foot cruise ship which sunk there in 1961. There is also an Underwater Sculpture Park, and famous Hawksbill turtles to catch some glimpses of. Bring an underwater camera because you’ll regret it if you don’t.
Rates: I checked out July 10 to July 16, 2010 and since we’re looking at family vacations, I wanted to see what the two bedroom suite would be. It was 150.00 per night for 5 of the nights, and 170.00 for the last night. If I booked a one-bedroom suite, it would be $85.00 per night. These have kitchenettes by the way, satellite tv, irons, phones, verandahs and more. If you were looking for cheap Caribbean vacations, you have just found it. For the location, the view, the spacious rooms for a great price, I think you may be very satisfied.
Reviews: Lots of positive feedback on this place. People keep coming back. This place has been updated, but for those who were staying prior to the renovations, there were a lot of complaints. This is about a 3 star facility, give or take a half.
