Fun For All at Jolly Beach Resort and Spa
Finding a children’s’ program and a teens program can be daunting for parents, but here at the Jolly Beach Resort and Spa in Antigua, the resort is designed with those age groups in mind. This place is stunning, the turquoise blue of the water and of the incredible pool take your breath away.
This place should be checked into for a family beach vacation package. The all-inclusive includes but is not limited to the following:
For teens: Ages 13 to 16 have a club all their own, where they are able to join in Monday to Friday from • 9:30 am – 12:30pm • 2:30pm – 5:00pm • 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Weekends are 10:30 to 2:30.
Evenings for teens are varied and they include a Mystery Night, Moonlight Scavenger Hunt, Bonfire Night and more. At the spa, there is a teen package to ask about called Teenz Escape. There is kayaking, beach volleyball, bonfires, dances, a club with Nintendo Wi, X-Box, indoor basketball, fooseball, ping pong and much more.
Kids Club: Age 3 to 12. There extensive variety for this age group is sure to keep them occupied while you have some down time. Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 12:30 and 2:30 to 5 pm, with baby-sitting also available during days and evenings at an additional cost.
There are seashell hunts, treasure hunts, pirate night, Chef’s Corner, Hawaiian Style Luau and much more. There are also spa packages for these younger kids if you feel like spending the money in pampering them more than they already are this holiday.
If that is not enough, there is a Family Program. There is the Jolly Sports, the Jolly Relax and the Jolly Adventure. The Sports includes Family Olympics, dance lessons with Latin and reggae techniques, the tennis program which divides the ages up for lessons plus has tournaments twice per week.
The Jolly Adventure includes kayaking lessons, sailing lessons, sailing and kayak racing, arts and crafts Antiguan style, star-gazing and bonfire with story telling.
There are two pools, hammock lounge, nightly entertainment, fitness room and exercise classes, non-motorized water sports and much more.
Available but not in the all-inclusive price: Wi-fi and internet, in-room safe, scuba-diving, bottle water, airport transfers and some other services.
Accommodation: There are six different types of rooms, including beach front cottages. All categories are in the all-inclusive package. Based on double occupancy, the junior suite would be 270.00 per night which includes the 20 percent government tax and service charge, and is for the period of Dec. 21, 2009 to April 15, 2010. The one bedroom cottage is 276.00 per night for that period. The two-bedroom cottage however is vastly higher, being 847.00 per night. For that price, it had better be huge. By the way, all rates are quoted per person per night. There are also specials and packages which do much better for pricing. The rooms have ceramic tile, wicker furnishings, cheerful and pretty décor for the most part, an ugly conference room, great outdoor seating areas with umbrellas, lovely tropical gardening and landscaping all around, beautiful sand beach.
Reviews: For the most part really positive. Upgrade to something more than the standard or superior and make sure you have air conditioning if this is an issue for you. The standard rooms are small like they indicated. There are balconies with lounge chairs and chaises, good to great to excellent food, really accommodating and fun staff, coves to explore, St. John’s to buy from vendors, a laid-back atmosphere, not luxurious but wonderful overall. A few people had bad experiences with their rooms and you’ll find those easily enough. Someone said to take the helicopter ride to see an active volcano at Monserrat and include mosquito repellant for after rain showers. Overall I’m really impressed with the reviews. No stuffiness at this place, no stressing over whether you seem rich enough to fit in, just relaxing the way a holiday should be for family Caribbean vacations.
Directions: The resort is 30 minutes from the V.C. Bird International airport. It is near the top of the Leeward Islands which are a chain of Caribbean islands. Their chart on the website lays out very nicely the flights from several countries depending on the airline you take.
