Floating in Mineral-Rich Manitou Lake
I cannot understand how this gem has escaped the radar of beach aficionados. I mean, I will never forget my experience floating in the Dead Sea in Israel, slathering mud all over my body and hair, and basking in the sun, an unforgettable day. Yet I never knew that in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, at a town called Watrous, is the buoyant waters of Manitou Beach and Little Manitou Lake. It is fed by underground springs, is mineral-laden and saline. Sinking is not an option. You simply float, and the minerals are supposed to be as effective and therapeutic as what you would find in renowned spas.
Although this is not the place you want to head to this very month of February 2010 coming up, you may want to plan for a trip up north, depending on where you live of course. If you are from Nunavut, you will be heading South. Either way, find this place in the summer. Saskatchewan gets hot in the summer, and you’ll relax like you never thought you could, while soaking in the beneficial minerals.
Not wanting to miss out on the marketing of this prime location, Watrous has a spa beautifully established for those wanting some refined treatments after their day of soaking in the sun. Your children can also play in an activity and pool area while you relax. You can bring your family in fact and stay at Manitou Springs Resort that has the spa. There are three different temperatures in the spa pool for your comfort level. For the location and price and the privilege of mineral waters, you’ll have a blast with your children, and may find this one of the best family beach vacations you’ve had. Those who have disabled family members will be glad to know some rooms are also wheelchair accessible. Look into it further before you go.
Checking out the resort, I would not be considering the rooms luxurious by any means; hence the reasonable price. It is the location and the lake that mesmerizes me. The facilities for wraps, reflexology, massages, manicures, spa pool and the works look good.
Look up watrousmanitou.com and you’ll navigate your way easily as well as reading up about the resort. The chart below provides an idea about the mineral levels at Manitou compared to the ocean. The nearest airport is Saskatoon International, which is 1.3 hours north from Watrous. Driving up from the States you’ll be driving north from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewn on Hwy 2.
